Join us and help shape the future of aerospace and defense.The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC is focused on the research, development, and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.What You Will DoThe Principal Additive Manufacturing Design Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including:Support RTX Business Units by providing design and FEA expertise to increase the rate of additive adoptionDevelopment, demonstration, and documentation of design methodologies and tools for additive manufacturing including conventional CAD and implicit modeling-based approachesDefinition of automated AM software tools and methodologies for interconnection of individual tools into a unified toolchain capable of operating on large, component-level scalesTopology Optimization for generation of geometries enabled by additive manufacturing across structural, thermal, or hydrodynamic domainsExecution of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) projects to support business unit adoption of additively manufactured components and systemsEstablish relationships with government, industry, academic, and RTX Business Units and lead development of whitepapers, project concepts, and responsive proposalsManagement of multiple design, development, and demonstration projectsSummarize and communicate results of key programs to upper managementQualifications You Must HaveThe preferred candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment. Candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills including:Typically requires a University Engineering Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years experienceMinimum 5 years CAD user (Siemens NX preferred) for mechanical design and product engineeringExperience with finite element analysis (e.g. Ansys, Abaqus, COMSOL)Minimum 2 years scripting experience with CAD tools, Matlab, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similarMinimum 1 year experience with implicit modeling tools such as nTop including development of custom blocksQualifications We PreferPreferred candidates for this position will have an MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field.Working understanding of AM processes including laser powder bed fusionWhat We Offer: Whether you’re just starting out on your career journey or are an experienced professional, we offer a robust total rewards package with compensation; healthcare, wellness, retirement and work/life benefits; career development and recognition programs. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
